Hey! What Have You Been Up To This Summer?

Foggy day at the beach.

I love the ocean and went to Maine in July. I have been wanting to learn to surf for a very long time. I gave myself a gift and took a few days of solo surfing lesson with an instructor in Maine. it was fun and humbling all at the same time.

I was not the natural surfer I thought I was, however, after a lot of falling and getting back on the board, I did end up catching waves!! It was the best! I looked back after I caught my first wave with a huge smile on my face. My instructor had their fists in the air and was shouting. It was awesome, two humans in the ocean shouting, smiling, and celebrating!!

Things I Discovered About Myself While Learning To Surf:

I do not need to be amazing the first time I try something to enjoy it.

I am really good at falling into the water, from any angle…expert level. I have no fear. Who knew! This actually helped me to learn to surf.

My dedication and perseverance paid off. Even when I had seaweed all in my hair, and seawater up my nose, probably occasionally a booger too if I am honest. We actually had a conversation about how this occurs frequently when you surf.

I kept trying different ways until I found the right way for me.

I love getting to know people in weird places, like floating in the ocean covered in seaweed.

I am a force

If you’re having fun that is enough
